After your endodontic procedure, Dr. Sadiq will discuss instructions on how to care for your tooth while recovering from treatment and until any needed follow-up visit.

Following guidelines for care is important for healing and especially if a temporary filling or crown has been placed on the treated tooth.

Eating/ Drinking

Pain Management:

Because we use local anesthetic, you will be numb for a few hours following your endodontic treatment. As the numbness wears off, you may eat something soft but should avoid food that requires chewing to avoid injuring your lip or cheek.  Once your mouth no longer feels numb, you may eat and drink as usual but should avoid hard & sticky items directly on the tooth that was treated.

As the anesthetic medication wears off, you may start to feel tenderness in the treated tooth for a few days during the healing process. You may also notice some mild soreness in your jaw from being open for an extended time during the procedure, which is common after treatment. Over-the-counter analgesics such as Ibuprofen or Tylenol can help to relieve these temporary symptoms. We advise taking either Ibuprofen or Tylenol every 6 hours for the first 2-3 days.

Follow-Up Appointments:

Our office will let you know if you need any follow-up appointments in our office and will let you know when you should see your dentist. Please make sure to schedule an appointment with your general dentist once the treatment has been completed so that they may continue the restorative care for the treated tooth.
